Have Friends, Will TravelHow to Travel With (And Keep) Your Friends
Ecotravel.com states that you and your fellow travelers should “determine your goals for the trip. Traveling…is about taking time out to get closer with friends…
learn a new skill… or learn something new about ourselves.... This is a critical thing to discuss… The trip will have to be designed to meet everyone’s goals.” **
How do you design a trip that satisfies everyone, so that once the trip is over, you all remains friends? Here’s how:
- Obtain a map in advance, and on it mark the sites that everyone lists as a “must see”.
- Define your expectations regarding the comfort level of the trip: Tents, cheap motels, good hotels, all-inclusive resorts, etc.
- Rule out types of transportation. For example, one of your party might suffer from seasickness, so boats would be out.
- Find out the average temperature and precipitation at your destination so everyone can pack accordingly—and plan which activities they can do.**
To these I would add:
- Decide the level of restaurants at which to eat: Fast-food joints, diners, casual restaurants, four-star restaurants, etc. Perhaps a combination of different types would suit everyone.
- Decide which activities you can do together and which you can do alone. Then no one will feel compelled to take a tiring run through the park or visit a musty museum. Also decide
the number of hours each of you would like to spend shopping, sightseeing, etc. Then work out a schedule.
Have a friend? Want to travel? Combine the two! With a little planning and a bit of tact, you’ll have twice the fun!
