Should I call it Pool or Billiards?

That’s a good question, and the answer depends on where you live.

If you live in the United States, then the terms pool and billiards are interchangeable. However, in recent years, because of the negative connotation associated with “pool”, the term billiards has become more popular. If you want to watch someone “shoot pool” on television, search your TV guide for the word billiards, because you probably won't find it under pool.

If you live in Great Britain there is a definite difference between pool and billiards. There is “American Pool” played on a pool table which is about 8 – 9 feet long, English Billiards and Snooker, which are both played on a snooker table that is a whopping 12 feet long. All three are different, yet equally challenging sports.

And if that’s not confusing enough, consider that when a native of France or Spain speaks of Billiards, they probably mean the game Carom. Carom is played on a table that has no pockets at all and only three balls are used during play.

Regardless of which version of “billiards” you play, it is a great form of recreation that can be enjoyed alone or with friends. Are you looking for a new friend or two to play your brand of Billiards with? Then click here!!
